Simple Tips for Your Family Visa in the UAE
Planning to bring your family to the UAE? A well-prepared application saves you time and stress. Here are some essential tips to help you through the process.
Check Your Eligibility to Sponsor
To sponsor your family in the UAE, you need a valid UAE residence visa and a minimum monthly salary of AED 4,000. Make sure your visa and employment status are active before you start the application.
Know Who You Can Sponsor
As a UAE resident, you can sponsor your spouse, children, and parents. Each family member category may have its own specific requirements, so it's best to confirm the details for your particular case.
Keep Your Documents Ready
Having the right documents prepared in advance makes the process much smoother. Here's what you'll typically need:
- Passport copies of sponsor & family member
- Marriage certificate (attested) — for spouse visa
- Birth certificate (attested) — for children
- Salary certificate from your employer
- Labour contract
- Passport-sized photographs
Get Your Documents Attested
Documents like your marriage certificate and birth certificates must be attested — first by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in your home country, then by the UAE Embassy, and finally by UAE MOFA. If they're not in Arabic or English, you'll need a certified translation too. Start this process early as it can take time.
Complete the Medical Fitness Test
After arriving in the UAE, a medical fitness test is required at a government-approved health centre. This applies to your spouse and children aged 18 and above. The test typically includes a blood test and chest X-ray. Results are usually ready within a few working days.
Emirates ID & Visa Stamping
After the medical test, apply for the Emirates ID — biometrics (photo and fingerprints) will be captured at the service centre. The final step is visa stamping, which is now done through application typing — there's no physical sticker on the passport anymore. Once stamped, the residence visa is officially active.
Please note: UAE visa rules and fees may change from time to time. Always confirm the latest requirements through official channels before starting your application.
